R P Lohse - Animation with D3

My calendar showed a picture by Richard Paul Lohse similar to Lot 161. As I wanted to try visuals using d3 instead of p5, I took this picture as the base for the animated version shown here.
Looking at the original, the width of the rows and columns increases exponentially (by doubling) from the narrow central row/column. The 'central' position is now animated and the exponential doubling extended to this moving position.
