All pictures here are derived from one common algorithm:

  • use a flow field (using Perlin noise with restricted directionality) to define swinging vertical lines
  • draw s-shaped curves between neighboring vertical lines, with distances generated by another Perlin-base field

Many parameters are available for tweaking - various parameters for the flow fields, directionality, distances, intermittent breaks etc, leading to a wide variety of resulting forms, from more geometrical to more flowery or ‘leafy’.
