The basic pattern creating this image is a simple triangle grid – as can be seen at the far right of the image.
On the left side, the different directions of the grid lines get added only one after the other, introducing the overall pattern. At the same time, the grid lines are distorted and Chaikin-smoothed – see Triangle Pattern for details – with varying parameters across the width of the image.
Much more simple than the phenomenal, intricate Metamorphosis pictures by M. C. Escher, the idea of the variations across a larger space was the inspiration behind this geometric experiment – and therefore this is a small hommage to his genius.
